A Symbolic City

Museums, priceless monuments alternate with Baroque-style palaces and noble residences, creating a cultural mix that caters to a diverse range of interests. Turin, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was the site of the 20th Winter Olympic Games in 2006 and remains a significant center for publishing, the Italian automotive industry, cinema and food and wine.

The city offers numerous attractions, many of which draw long queues. It’s advisable to book tickets in advance to avoid disappointment. Despite being Italy’s fourth-largest city by population,Turin symbolizes a past era of Italy, yet today it represents a sense of rejuvenation.

The symbol of the Piedmontese capital is definitely the Mole Antonelliana, the work of architect Alessandro Antonelli after whom it is named, which is relatively recent compared to other Turin monuments.

The Mole Antonelliana

The Mole Antonelliana, once the tallest building in the world at 167.5 meters, now stands as one of the tallest structures in the city. It houses the Museo Nazionale Del Cinema, renowned as one of the world’s most significant cinema museums. Visitors can take the panoramic elevator to experience the city from above with a breathtaking view.

The Cathedral of Turin represents the only remaining Renaissance legacy, where visitors can admire the revered relic of the Holy Shroud of Christ. Prominent churches include the Church of San Lorenzo, the Gothic-style Church of San Domenico, and the Sanctuary of the Consolata.

A separate discourse deserves the Egyptian Museum, recognized globally as the second-largest museum dedicated to Egyptian artifacts after the GAM in Cairo, Moreover, it stands as the oldest museum dedicated solely to Egyptian culture. Established in 1824 and reorganized in 1924 for a royal visit, it houses a collection of 30,000 artifacts, including those unearthed during excavations led by Schiaparelli and Farina in Egypt.
